Are you looking for a sweet sound in your Irish whistles? You've come to the right place.

MackBeth whistles are handmade in Oregon, USA, from brass and plastic. They are based on designs by Mack Hoover of Hoover Whistles, whose work is known for being sweet and often quiet.

Some MackBeths are made to be very quiet, ideal for those needing to practice without disturbing others. Others are made to be louder and are sought out by session players looking for an instrument that does not sound "airy" or "breathy". Some like the "chiffy" sound produced by airy whistles, and there are plenty of those available elsewhere. Here, we aim for a non-breathy sound that some call "pure".

Only High D models are available currently; other keys will be made in the future. The whistles are made from brass and plastic. Some models can "telescope" into a smaller, pocket-sized bundle. All models are tunable. A few whistles are available for immediate purchase as indicated on the Gallery page. If you don't find what you are looking for there you may express your interest in a custom instrument by using the contact link at the bottom of each page.

High D whistles are priced at approximately $100 to $135, depending on body style, with a full satisfaction guarantee. Cases for telescoping models may also be available. "Scratch and Dent" but acoustically wonderful whistles may be available at a discount. See the Ordering page for more details.

Only instruments that are delightful to the maker as a whistle player are released for sale, but all players are different and what speaks to one person may not speak to another. Hoover whistles were always welcomed back home if they weren't a fit for the player and MackBeth carries on with that tradition. Please get in touch if you have any trouble with your whistle.
