Whistle # 23

Number: #23

Key: High D

Date completed: August 2024

Type: A telescoping brass high D model with brass head and white plastic fipple plug. When collapsed it measures between six and a half and seven inches. This is a Scratch and Dent model. The mouthpiece was cut at too sharp of a curve in the brass and the white plug does not exactly line up with the curve. See additional photograph below.

Errors on beak cutting

Volume: Medium to soft with a slight breathy tone. Careful breath control is required.

Status: Available at a 'scratch and dent' discounted price of $110

Additional details: This whistle does not have the 'pure' tone of most MackBeths, but is instead more 'chiffy'. Think of a Clarke, but more balanced between octaves and with less air required. Although the tone is breathy, it is consistant through both octaves. You don't get more air noise in the second octave as happens with many mass-produced whistles. The windway is milled out with a rectangular profile, which is an approach I've been experimenting with.

Sound clip: Unavailable at this time.
